The apprenticeship program is approximately 3 years long. You must complete 4800 hours of on the job and 492 hours of class room training.

When do I start classes?
You will start your classes approximately 3 months after you receive your letter of intent to hire from your employer. You will attend one 40 hour class per quarter. However if you are working in the Kansas City Missouri area you will be scheduled to take the O.S.H.A. 10 hour class with in 60 days.

How much will I make?
Apprentices start out at 50% of the journeyman scale for the area they are employed and wages are discussed at time of application and not over the phone. Wage increases are based on O.J.T. hours, Class room training hours and Union meeting attendance.

What Happens after I fill out the application?
After completing the application, each applicant is provided with a letter of introduction and a list of participating contractors for use when soliciting jobs with contractors.

Once the applicant finds a contractor who will hire him/her:
1. The Contractor will provide a Letter of Intent to Hire on the contractors stationery stating that the contractor is hiring that person as a Laborer Apprentice and the location of the job site.

2. The applicant will then bring this letter to the location were they completed the initial application.

3. The Apprentice will then be directed to the local union hall who has the jurisdiction over the area they will be working in.  The new Apprentice will make arrangements to join that local then be put to work by the contractor. The new Apprentice must then complete 4800 hours of on the job training and 492 hours of classroom training. Upon completion of these requirements they will be advanced to Journeyman status.
